Read the water. Respect the clock.
Fundy's tides rise faster than most people expect — the equivalent of a four-storey building in six hours. A calm mudflat can become open ocean in less time than a picnic. This guide keeps you out of trouble.
Guided tours we recommend
Guided tours from Parks Canada, Cliffs of Fundy Geopark, and licensed local operators are the safest way to walk the flats or explore the caves. Guides carry radios, know the exact tide windows, and stay in contact with rangers.
General beach safety
- Wear grippy footwear — the mud is slippery.
- Never turn your back on the water once the tide starts to come in.
- Watch for soft mud that swallows boots. Move sideways to firmer ground.
- Never climb the sandstone cliffs — they crumble without warning.
